Maybe I’m not originally from Brooklyn. Maybe I don’t own a pair of hipster sunglasses or multi-colored sneaks…but ever since my college days and a tiny apartment near the Lormier station, I’ve felt like a BK gal. Boutique shops. Bike rides. Graffiti walls. The Billy Burg bridge…I’m home. So when a Brooklyn cookbook comes out, I’ve got to share it with you fancy folks. Review: The Blue Bottle Cafe

When visiting the  Blue Bottle Cafe you are first welcomed with a smile and a wall of awards and articles. In the minute we waited for our table I was able to read the first line of a review from the New York Times which raved about the gnocchi. Remember, I haven’t seen the menu yet. As the days, the months and hopefully the years go by you will get a real sense of my Aunt Robin. She was a vegetarian for most of her life and when I declared my vegetarianism as a youngster she really stood by me. Aunt Robin is the only Aunt a gal could need. Review: Rat’s Restaurant

My Aunt and Uncle thought they would drive down from their CT home to sample the food at Rat’s Restaurant. This, I decided was an excellent. I had been at the restaurant twice before and was always more than satisfied with the meal.

I’m a journey gal. Life is a journey and every aspect of our lives are made up of little journeys. I’ve always found myself rooting for the underdog in races, games or even (I’ll admit it) reality TV shows. I believe this is because we see the biggest journey from the underdog. Their fight to the top is the most authentic and heart felt. Maybe I’m just a sap. When I decided it was time to start The Gourmet Vegetarian, I thought in terms of a journey.
